Apache Derby (previously distributed as IBM Cloudscape), an Apache DB subproject, is a relational database management system (RDBMS) implemented entirely in Java and used for online transaction processing. It has a small footprint i.e., about 3.5 megabytes for the base engine and embedded JDBC driver. It is based on the Java, JDBC, SQL standards and also supports the more familiar client/server mode with the Derby Network Client JDBC driver and Derby Network Server.
